How do y'all cook bacon? Detailed instructions please. Anyone cook it in the microwave?
I usually cook it in the microwave. It's nicest if you have one of those microwave bacon things, but a plate will do in a pinch.
First, put a couple layers of paper towel down on the plate. (Taking a paper towel and folding it twice will do if you have the thicker type of paper towel.) Next, put your bacon on the plate, lying it as flat as you're able. Then put another paper towel on top of that. (The paper towels are to soak up the grease as it cooks.) I usually put it in the microwave for about 4 minutes, though it'll depend on how crisp you like your bacon. When taking it out, you'll have to be a tad careful when taking it off the paper towels. If you try to just rip it off, you may get the paper towel with it.
Hope that helps some.
The Best way is to use a george forman grill.
You just set it on the grill, and let it cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, a lot easier to clean up and a lot better tasting.
Thank you both!
First in the microwave, how do you know that it is cooked through?
With the George, does it matter that both grill plates won't touch the bacon? It gets cooked on the top?
It won't matter. Another very similar way is to cook it in the electric skillet. You can cook more bacon at a time this way. Get the skillet nice and hot, then put your bacon in, then put the lid on, and cook it for anywhere from 5 to 9 minutes, depending on the quantity and how crisp you want it. The steam will cook the top, so there's no need to flip the bacon.
I like to bake it in the oven on a cookie sheet or cake pan.
works well
Hmmm! Don't think much to cremated bacon that's been fried for 15 mins in the George. I heat the George first, bung the bacon in lengthways across the plates, slam the lid shut and blitz for 7 mins maximum. There! It's done.
Jen.
I'm one who'll microwave it too. I have a bacon wrack, so just put it on the wrack, as flat as you can, a couple of bits of paper towel over the top to stop it splattering over your micro, and do it for about 4 minutes, or however you like it. I'll have to try the oven though, that sounds interesting. mmm, Now I need to go shopping for bacon, lol.
Cheers,
Simon
does anyone do the bacon in a frying pan???? a regular one .. u know .. im not that fancy ;)
how do you cook bacon in the oven?
Ok devilish Anthony, your suggestion of the electric skillet interests me. No need for flipping, don't need to worry about splatter; all good things! Does it get crispy?
The microwave way is probably the way I'd use the most.
I've heard of the oven before, but I must admit, I have a rather large fear of fires. The thought of a grease fire freaks me out...smile!
Yummo, pepper bacon!
Yes, it will get crispy. The longer you cook it, the crispier it gets. After it cools down just a little bit, I pick up the electric skillet, and pour the grease out of one of the corners, into a fruit jar, or something similar, to use for making gravy and such.
Yes, You can cook it in a frying pan, and if you have a lid for it, see my post about cooking it in the electric skillet. The same will apply. If not, then you'll have to flip it, which might prove hard to do, but not impossible. You do run a bit more of a risk of birning your fingers, or having grease pop on ya though.
I have cooked bacon in the frying pan before and I find it easiest if you habe a double spatchula. However, I only recommend it if you are comfortable with stove top cooking. Never tryed it in the oven but it would be safer than the frying pan unless it's a gas oven. Just let it cool off before you take it out and you shouldn't have any grease fire problems.
there is precooked bacon out there. Oscar Meyer is one brand and there may be others. You just heat the bacon up in the microwave for 1 minute or so it seems to get really crispy fast.
I cook it in the microwave too but I skip the paper towels. I find that they make the bacon dry and less greasy. The amount of time I cook it depends on how many pieces I have and how I ant it, ex, really crispy or soft. I also noticed that I like uncured bacon better than the cured kind. Just a better taste in my opinion.
Hello I have a bacon crisper you use it in the microwave works great 1 minute per strip of bacon and the crisper has a catcher for the oil
It depends on how I want my bacon. If I need crumbly bits for salads and the like, I throw it in a cold skillet, turn the heat to about medium-high, and wait for the sounds of popping greese to diminish in frequency--basically the same way you'd cook a bag of microwave popcorn.
If I like limper bacon and don't care much about saving the greese, I'll microwave it uncovered on a paper towell-lined plate for 30 seconds to a minute per slice, depending on the thickness of the bacon.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot...Lest you think I enjoy cleaning every horizontal surface in the kitchen...a splatterguard is the best $15 you'll ever spend.
try to cut up in small pieces and just keep stering in a pan. the microwave makes its kinda hard
I cook mine in the microwave. i buy the microwavable kind, and it's already cooked, so i put a paper towell on a plate (which i often forget to do), or even a couple, (which i really forget to do), and put it in the microwave. Then I am extremely careful not to leave it in there longer than a few seconds, thirty at most, because it is already cooked. it also depends on how much bacon you have on there, and how crispy you like it! Then I take it out and munch away! Now let's see if I can go and do that now! Lol!
Now, anyone ever tried eggs in the microwave? that's good too! Lol!
Come on guys, get a grill pan with a lid set him on medium heat, flik a drop of water on the pan when it sizzles nicely start laying in your bacon do it crossways of the grill slats so the bacon cooks flat. Youll want your oven mits handy cause the handle gets hot like the rest of the pan. Step back from the pan for a few minutes. Test with your good metal spatula for firmness & flip the bacon. With the grill pan your not cooking the bacon in its own fat and your pan will behave nicely. Cook it till it's how you like it. Pour off the grease while your pan is still hot, oven mits again. Or take out your broiler pan crank up the broil setting put the bacon about middleways in the oven. Keep your attention on this. If you don't mind the heat you can check to see how it's doing. You won't have a grease fire unless you let it crispify and don't get it out after that point.350 will cook the bacon slowly enough for your coffee to perk when the bacon gets out of the oven. Fear in the kitchen will limit your capabilities as a blind cook. I believed for years that I couldn't make pancakes. I can & do. They come out fluffy and delicious. No need for Ihop now. You can cook over a grill, campfire, firepit anything you set your mind to. I was a chicken-shit for a long time. Being scared causes more accidents than anything else. Keep a cool head and all will be well.
I have tried eggs in the microwave, but it's just not the same as eggs cooked over the stove.
